10 tips
Strengthen your mind and body
1) Set yourself a goal that is attractive to you and write it down. It may be to get into hot pants or a bikini comfortably for summer but whatever it is it must be personal to you. Imagine what your goal looks and feels like and then live it.
2) Have a small routine of exercises that you do to start every day to keep you in training mode – 5-10 minutes maximum. Press ups, crunches, chin ups, lunges, leg raises or a sun salutation from yoga just to name a few. Choose a variety of exercises to hit all of the major muscle groups.
3) Use milestones such as inches lost/gained, distance/time increased in training and record them on a weekly basis to record your progress to keep you motivated.
4) Choose a variety of training methods to keep you interested such as yoga, martial arts, running, gym, weights. Outdoor Boot Camp is also a fantastic way to train Classes consist of own body weight exercises such as press ups, sit ups, burpees etc... and are great fun as you train in a group with military style instruction. You and your mates can create your own version if you are still feeling the credit crunch. Just use a park and your imagination!
5) Vary your training environment. If the sun is out, go for a walk or run outside. Sunshine is proven to put you in a better mood and therefore will help you train harder and make your session more enjoyable.
6) Complete some form of physical activity every day. On your rest days, still do your 5-10 minute routine and something to get you moving for half an hour even Wi fit!
7) Put your favourite motivational tracks on your iPod to keep you focused. Turn it on in your training sessions but also when you are walking to get to any destination as music will enhance your mood and make you walk faster.
8) Spend time recovering as well as training hard (yoga, meditation, massage, healing). Start to listen to your inner voice to encourage the connection between mind and body and help prevent injury so that you can keep training and gaining results. Choose at least one holistic activity per week to reward your body for the hard work that it is doing.
9) Rehydrate! Make sure you are drinking at least 1.5 litres of pure water throughout the day. Not only will it encourage good skin but also mobilise fat stores as fat is water soluble and can only be burnt in the presence of water.
10) Get on with it! Do you really want to achieve or not? We can always find barriers to participation and excuses not to commit to a routine, that’s easy. Find time to shape up and you will feel so much better for it. Good luck!
