Whitby Sea Fishing

Whitby sea fishing is probably some of the best fishing in the country, no matter what time of year. Whitby offers some of the the easiest fishing anywhere. You can fish from the two piers in Whitby, very easy access, catching Cod, Whiting and more from October to March/April.
Spinning accounts for Mackerel which are normally in abundance during the summer months.  Flat fish of all varieties, coalfish and eels are present throughout the year.  Sandsend beach just a couple of miles down the road provides plenty of variety of fish all year long.
Some of the locals fish from the top of the cliffs at Sandsend, certainly not recommended for anyone not knowing the area, but goes to show the diversity of the fishing in and around Whitby.

About Whitby
Whitby is a picturesque town based at the mouth of the Esk river.   The town is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century  Whitby Abbey.  This is a traditional maritime town, with old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and boasts a sandy blue flag beach.  Whitby is great place to take a holiday or enjoy a long weekend break, so if you have a family bring them along and let them enjoy the diverse attractions which includes Pannett Park,  the Victorian Jet Works, visit the  Captain Cook Memorial Museum, the Dracula Experience, and Whitby Museum  while you enjoy a few hours or a full days trip to catch your favourite species..

Fishing Bait For Sale Article

Fishing bait for sale as a term conjures up pictures in the mind of lazy days by the sea, flask at hand  and enjoying your favourite sport.  Of course we all hope that we attract a few fish to our rod with our chosen bait but that choice is not always as easy as it seems at first glance.

How many times have we fished beside someone, casting in the same area, using the same sort of rig but caught nothing while they have caught a bag full? The only difference being, is the bait they have been using!

We all start out with preconceived ideas about fishing, what rod do we buy, what reel do we buy, what line, what type of rigs, you get the picture.   The one item that we seem to neglect when we first start out is the fishing bait!  A lot of us started out, unless we had a mentor, thinking that we could chuck just about anything in to the sea and we would land that big elusive one that we spend a lifetime trying to catch but very rarely succeed in doing.

You can have the best, latest, most costliest gear in the land but if you are using the wrong bait on the wrong day then you won't catch a dime. This is were knowledge learnt over a long, long time comes in, sometimes over a lifetime isn't enough.  Just when you think you have it all sussed along comes a novice and produces or uses something you just wish you had the brains to think of years ago but obviously this isn't mentioned to the 'novice'.

We just tell him or her how you have being doing the same thing for years but thought we would try a different method today!   See how I said 'him or her', everyone including me is now getting very P.C.

For any 'novice' angler I would recommend they listen and learn from the other anglers around them, join a club, doesn't matter if your only young, most clubs run a 'junior section' and the other more experienced lads will just love to show you the 'proper way' to do things.

Don't be too pushy but if you show a real interest then you will be surprised just how much information you can glean from these guys.  Don't forget, your the next generation that's going to keep their beloved club alive and they'll just love bragging about how they taught you all you know if you win a match!

Read plenty of reports on the forum's, in the fishing press etc.  You will see where, how and with what bait other guys and gals are catching their fish.   Just because one bait works well in your area for a given type of fish doesn't necessarily mean the same fishing bait will work just as well in another area. By going on the forum's and reading the press, you can look and see, maybe ask the odd question or two about where you fancy fishing and gain knowledge as I have already said, that might take you years to learn otherwise.

Quality of fishing bait for me is paramount, don't be leaving your bait out for hours on end while you walk up and down a beach / pier etc chatting to all and sundry.  You ain't going to catch much that way.
I have always collected my own bait whenever possible, that way you know it is fresh and in tip top condition.

Two things I would highly recommend here and that is IF you have the room, get yourself a fridge and freezer to keep your bait in.  It will reap dividends in the long run believe me.  You can freeze down any leftovers and keep fresh bait nice and healthy in a fridge for a few days until you need it.

Get into the habit of changing your bait every 15 – 20 minutes or you could end up fishing 10 minutes out of every 30 with no bait because the crabs have been at it, it doesn't take long for them to strip your hooks clean.  Also the bait will soon get washed out of any scent in a strong tidal pull within a short space of time.

When re-baiting don't leave used fishing bait on the hook or 'top' the old stuff up, use only fresh bait every time, you WILL gain by doing that and also ALWAYS have a spare trace made up and fully baited so you can unclip the rig you have just brought in whether it has a fish on or not and then replace it with the 'ready' one.
You're fishing again within a minute or two at the most.
No fishing bait in the water equals no chance of a fish.  If you take stock of actually how long you spend each time baiting a hook or two or three, you will be amazed just how much time you have NOTHING in the water to attract anything! I travel long distances for most of my fishing so I like to take advantage of every second available.

If you can't collect your own fishing bait then make sure you get a reliable source, most shops or suppliers will tell you if the bait is a bit on the small side this week, it isn't as good quality as normal etc once they get to know you order off them regularly.

They don't want to lose your custom and have you going to someone else. Don't forget there are a lot more 'online suppliers' to be found on the internet than there was just a few years ago and most are fairly good.  Too be honest though, I have always tried to support my own local tackle shops over the years and it does pay dividends.  You might be able to get a bit of a discount when buying an expensive rod or reel etc.  They will normally look after you if you look after them.

They are there when you need them for all those small items, hooks, swivels, line, weights etc rather than you having to wait for a delivery from Ebay or wherever.  Horses for courses as they say.
